It’s something everyone talks about, and we know is important. But how many of us actually take time for us? And what does self care really look like?
Realistically self care can be whatever you want it to be, and it doesn’t necessarily have to take hours, it’s about anything to help you relax and feel a little bit more like you.
I’ll be completely honest, I can be absolutely awful at making any time for myself, but I do try to do some little things every day just to relax a little.
Daily “me time”
Coffee

I like to get up before everyone else (when I can if Charlotte sleeps) and sit and have a coffee. It gives me time to wake up enough to deal with the kids endless list of demands, and there’s something calming about sitting with no background noise first thing on a morning.
Skincare
I’m sure most of us remember to do a full skincare routine on a morning, particularly if you’re wearing makeup. But I know sometimes after a long day it can be really tempting to simply wipe away the makeup and leave it at that. However tired I might be I make a conscious effort to do my skincare on an evening. It makes me feel so much better, and it doesn’t have to take long. I do have a habit of changing some of my skincare products from time to time, usually depending what’s on offer or if I’ve forgotten to order some of the items I can’t get in shops. But generally these are my favourite skin care products:
Lumispa

If you don’t have one, you need one. It is definitely worth the money, and NuSkin reps always seem to have them on offer. I make sure I use mine morning and night. It really does make such a difference.
Gold Regenesis

OK, so you might think I’m a little bit biased with these, but it is such a good anti ageing range. I’ve been using anti ageing creams for longer than I can remember, but it can be difficult to find one that isn’t too greasy or too thick. Both the day and night cream are really moisturising without being thick or leaving skin really greasy.
”Eyebrator” under eye serum

Honestly this isn’t intended as a sales post, but this is a product I’ve used continuously for the last year, the vibrating tip helps to apply the product evenly and feels amazing if you have slightly puffy under eyes.
Eyelash Serum

Does it work? Simple answer is yes it really does. My natural lashes used to be quite short, but I actually had an MUA earlier this year comment on how long they were before applying any mascara.
Revolution Serum

I love this because when those pesky hormonal spots appear it really does help to clear them up really quickly.
If I have a little longer
This really doesn’t happen often. With no support and a child that doesn’t sleep, I literally have to be dealing with others needs 24/7. So if I do get some time where the kids have gone upstairs it’s nice to do something I want to do, but it’s not necessarily easy.
Reading
I love reading, but it isn’t the easiest pass time. I find it difficult to just sit and not do much. But I’m also aware that I might only have a few minutes. So it has to be a book which is easy to follow, that can be picked up as and when and I don’t really have to worry about not following the plot.
Manicure
I use the term very loosely, because it’s more a case of painting my nails and hoping I get long enough for them to dry. We all love having a perfect manicure, but there certainly is no way I’d ever get chance to have one. But it’s nothing that decent nail varnish (I love Barry M) and a drying spray can’t solve.
However you choose to spend time on yourself, make sure you do take some time, it honestly makes all the difference.
