There are lots of illuminated trails this time of year, and with the cost of them varying drastically it can be difficult to know whether the cost is going to reflect the whole experience.
Every year I go through exactly the same, I look at the various trails and wonder whether they are really going to be worth the money, particularly as some are verging on extortion. I had actually already booked another trail (review of that one will come after Christmas), when I came across one near to Ashbourne, the price was definitely reasonable, and there was plenty of availability so I knew it was best to get in quick to book a slot.

The trail itself is about a mile long (according to the website) and once you enter at your time slot you can literally take as long as you like to walk the trail, when we visited it was reasonably quiet so easy to stop and take plenty of photos and not have to worry about anyone crossing your path.
At the end of the trail you’ll go through a marquee with a few independent sellers, as well as food and drink vendors. Whilst the initial cost wasn’t overly expensive (£30 for a family of 4 plus parking), this is where you may potentially have to think about what you’re willing to spend.

Drink’s definitely weren’t expensive, in fact for 4 drinks, including a mulled wine it was less than £9. Let’s face it a round of drinks is generally going to cost you more than that whenever you’re out. The food on the other had is as expected from independent vendors, James and Charlotte both wanted a pizza, so we got a 12 inch pepperoni which came in at £9.50. One thing I will say though, is that having been to numerous food festivals and various markets, events throughout the festive season, the particular pizzas here had the biggest range of toppings, and probably the best we’ve actually had. There was also crepes and a hog roast if pizza isn’t your thing.
There were some lovely sellers as well, who has a range of Christmas gifts at very reasonable prices, so you get a little bit of the Christmas market feel right there at the end of your trail.
All in all I would highly recommend the Heritage Wood light trail if you’re looking for something festive that isn’t going to break the bank.
