Half Term

It may not seem like the kids have been back at school long, but February half term is fast approaching, which means many of us are probably starting to plan things to keep them entertained, working out childcare arrangements etc.

It can be a particularly tricky one, there’s not as much to do as over October half term, or the Christmas holidays, lots of places won’t have reopened yet, the weather can still be very cold and very wet. But no one wants a week of being stuck inside with kids just attached to their iPads. Not that there is anything wrong if you don’t have a full week of stuff planned but we all know what it can be like when you feel stuck in the house all week.

Memberships

I couldn’t start without talking about memberships. As many know we’ve had National Trust and English Heritage memberships for a few years now, and they are literally worth their weight in gold. They’re extremely cost effective and there are events going on all year round so it’s a good way to get out exploring and have activities already organised.

If funds allow, you can look into Merlin Passes, or memberships for local attractions.

Pay Once get 12 months

I’ve noticed a lot more places starting to offer this, particularly when booking online, it means that you pay one admission fee and can then visit again throughout the next 12 months, giving plenty of free/cheap days out, they also take the pressure off if you don’t get to see everything or have to leave earlier than planned at least you’ll be able to visit again free of charge.

Free events and attractions

For some reason this is a tricky one. In a country where the weather is certainly unpredictable, the amount of indoor activities that are either cheap or completely free is somewhat lacking. But most cities do still have free museums, you just need to factor in parking/transport. If you decide to then make a day of it then you can choose whatever fits your budget.

Whatever you decide to do just remember to just do what works for you, never compare yourself to anyone, particularly people on the internet that you don’t know.
