Is anyone else in shock that we are heading towards another half term holiday. It doesn’t seem two seconds since they went back after Easter. It’s that time where the anxiety kicks in again knowing we need to try to juggle everything and keep the kids entertained.
Hopefully, if long term forecasts prove accurate (I know, I know, it’s a long shot, but we are in May now). Then we will have some better weather. Which does open up the chance to get out without it costing a fortune, whether it’s a picnic in the park, or even setting up an obstacle course in the garden, it can be so easy to come up with free/low cost things to do once the weather is more on side.
With that in mind this could be a good time to look forward to the Summer. Look if there are any large outdoor activities, I’m thinking similar to Conkers here in the Midlands, that also offer annual passes. The amount these will save over the coming months can be invaluable when you just need to get out and let the kids burn off steam. I could also go on for ages about National Trust and English Heritage passes, but I think I’ve done that so many times you all know I think they’re brilliant and provide brilliant days out all year round.
Before the holidays do come around quickly take time to check any garden toys, and also go through the cupboards and check for craft and baking supplies, this way you’ll be prepared even if you’re at home and whatever the weather. You could even plan for a film night and get all the treats in ready.
Also, just remember, if you do end up letting them sit in front of the TV or on their tablet, don’t worry about it. You also need some time to be able to work if you’re still working over half term, or even to sit and have a cuppa. If they complain they’re bored, again, don’t stress about it. Remember when we grew up and we were happy to play in our rooms or run riot with our friends? That often comes from having to think about what you want to do, and sometimes they need that, rather than just being constantly told what the day is going to consist of.
Also have a word with friends and family, arrange something between you all, trust me, having extra sets of hands really does help to take the pressure off. But whatever you end up doing, try not to overthink anything, turn away from social media, and pour a glass of wine. We’re all only doing our best.
