Wellness

A little about me and my wellness journey. I call it wellness because it’s more than just about weight, it’s about my general well-being and creating healthy habits not just for me but for the kids.

I’m sure many mum’s will relate when I say my general needs took a backseat after having kids, it happens to the best of us. In trying to look after everyone else, all the boring home stuff that needs doing, the constant number of appointments to various different professionals, on top of desperately trying to remember I have a social media based business to run, I generally forgot about what I actually needed, or wanted, I’d go days sometimes without eating because there simply wasn’t the time or I’d simply forget while running round meeting the endless list of demands.

As a result my weight and mental health really started to suffer. Thankfully, about a year ago I got talking to a lovely woman on Instagram, who like me also has an autistic child. After months of watching her stories and chatting away I finally decided to ask about a little side business she had going. I wasn’t interested in the business itself but was interested in what it actually had to offer by way of health and fitness.

I eventually made a start in April. I’ve followed various programs before that promise to improve health etc, but often all they really offer is shakes etc. What I really loved from the off was the range of workouts included, many that are 20-30minutes. Perfect for anyone with a busy schedule. I delved in and out of nutrition plans but didn’t really focus, as I generally didn’t have that much of a concern with my general nutrition.

I’ll be honest and say I let things slip over summer, but this month, I’ve taken the time to sit down, reflect on what I did well earlier in the year and really shift my focus,

About the same time as starting this blog I also took the leap as a Beachbody Coach (I do like to keep myself super busy). Focusing the nutrition side of the business. Specifically an amazing nutrition program they offer “2B Mindset”.

This is where the wellness side comes in. It’s about eating better for the body. Creating a change in mindset, leading to a healthy lifestyle that is easily maintained, while still being able to enjoy food and still eating lots of it.

It’s not about meal replacements, just proper food. The little changes do have a positive effect on everyone. The kids want to help picking the meals we have and they pretty much fight over who gets to help prep meals. They’ve both been good at eating veg with meals (in fact it’s always the first thing he eats). But the biggest change is they’ve independently started asking for veggies as snacks rather than automatically raiding the biscuit barrel or sneaking several packs of crisps.

That’s really the biggest thing with this journey. It’s making changes that not only make me feel better, but making changes that are still enjoyable and that give kids the foundations now to grow up making the right choices and hopefully never having the same battle I’ve had over the years.
